Back to Reykjavik

After so many days of driving I assumed we would be ready to settle down and rest. It turned out that wasn’t exactly the case. We had gotten used to life on the road. Every new day brought a new adventure and new sights to discover. Sitting still, even in the middle of downtown in the famous city of Reykjavik, was difficult.

Still, we made the best of it. We wandered the city taking in the famous sights and swimming in the local pools. We ate some of the local foods, the famous hotdogs of Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, the rotten shark Hákarl, lamb soup, arctic char, various delicious baked goods and lots of local ice cream and skyr.

We had arranged a small apartment a couple of blocks from the walking street Laugavegur. From there we walked all over downtown and to many sights including Hallgrímskirkja church, Harpa concert hall, the public pools Sundhöllin and Laugardalslaug, several museums and of course the Sun Voyager. After we had walked across the city multiple times, we returned to the car to visit the Perlan museum and to drive up and down the coast of the Reykjanes peninsula.

One of the most memorable sights of Reykjavik for me are the murals drawn on the buildings all over town. Some of my favorites shots of the city are below, including several murals and one of my favorites consisting of instructions explaining how to tie a tie.
