Descent From Ridgeline to City
Distance: 3.4 Miles (7.1 miles total for the day) Elevation Gain/Loss: 115 feet/670 feet
We started the day at Sweeney Ridge to complete both sections as one hike. We spent much of the day in a comfortable descent down from the ridge line toward the ocean. By the time we reached Skyline College to begin this section, we had dropped quite a bit of altitude to the point where we were almost under the fog. Once the fog was above us we would finally be able to catch some views of the Pacifica coastline. It is apparently quite stunning from Skyline College, but the fog only relented once we had passed the college and made our way along the roads and back on the trails of Milagra Ridge park. From there the views were stunning. As we made our way down from the ridge along the beautifully maintained Milagra Battery Trail, we stopped repeatedly to take in the coastal view from each new vantage point until we eventually descended into the town of Pacifica where our car waited. From this point north the ridge appears to be missing. But the ridge trail continues through Pacifica, Daly City and San Francisco where it undoubtedly eventually will once again find a ridge line to follow in the North Bay.
